For us, the cattle business has always been about exceptional females. It doesn't matter which aspect of the business you are in, you better have the right kind of females if you want to succeed. We constantly strive to upgrade our "CowPower Females".
Nelson CowPower females have real maternal ability and can still raise that great one. We like them soft and sound, stout but still angular and maternal and full of milk. If a cow can't feed a great show calf, she isn't going to raise a great show calf. CowPower Females raise the great show calves.

CowPower 360: Registered Angus
Sire: Lut Dam: Cold War x Stockman 365 Owned with Bruhn Farms Joint Venture
Rarely do you see an angus female with show much show calf potential. This is not your typical
angus female! When we found this female we knew we had to add her to the CowPower arsenal.
We needed a partner and who better to partner with than Alan Bruhn. Alan is a true cattleman
who loves and knows the maternal side of the genetic spectrum better than anyone. We are
delighted to own this one of a kind female with Alan.
360 brings a lot to the table when you think CowPower. She is unique in the angus herdbook. I
don’t care how you slice it: pedigree, muscle mass, fertility, soundness, hair, bone, moderation of
frame, udder quality - 360 excels. We flushed 360 as a virgin heifer. She produced twelve grade
one eggs and eleven calves. She was flushed in one straw of Meyer 734! She bred back on the
next heat with sexed Maximus semen and she has a heifer at her side you have to see to believe.
We liked what she did so much, we flushed her to Heat Wave 73 days after calving and she
produced 28 grade one eggs. We have nineteen of those in recip cows as we speak. We fully
expect to raise the next Monopoly, a hand full of great show steers, and some Heat Wave
daughters that milk from this flush. We don’t expect much!
Trust us, 360 is going to change the landscape in the show calf business. Get on board and let
her help you do a 360 to your program!
Every now and then we see a female we have to have. This is one of those. Black Betty as she is known has had a stellar career in the show ring for Makayla Smith. She was high point Maine heifer in Iowa in 2009 and then in 2010 she was Grand Champion Cow/Calf pair at the Maine Junior Nationals. Her first calf by Gigolo Joe was the Reserve Champion Bred and Owned Bull at Junior National. He will sell at the 2011 Iowa Beef Expo sale. We are excited to add her to our CowPower Female arsenal. You can see this cow on the move in the video at the top of the page. She is calving early and we will flush her in 2011. Please stay tuned for some of the most exciting Maine genetics to hit the country in a long time.
Check out Big Improvement on the Nelson Bulls page. Check out Mona Lisa almost anywhere.
The Mona Lisa cow was a total outcross purebred Maine cow we originally purchased in
partnership with Charlie Phillip. When we dissolved that partnership, the cow sold but her
legacy continues at Nelson Cattle. CowPower 18S is just one example: freaky haired, rocket
fronted, big boned, perfect udder in a MaineTainer. This is one unique cow. She brings the best
of Mona Lisa and combines it with the maternal genetics of Big Improvement. You will hear
more from this one. She has a 26T2 heifer at her side that is going to be a force to be reckoned
with in the Maine show ring.
CowPower 18X
CowPower 18X1
These two heifers show you what the 18S cow can do. CowPower 18X is a Gigolo Joe daughter out of 18S. The CowPower 18X1 heifer is a Nelson 26T2 daughter out of 18S. Both heifers were born this spring and will be shown in 2011 by Makayla Smith and Dalton Smith. These heifers are both high percentage Maine and will be a force to be reckoned with. Stay tuned for more great things from CowPower 18S.
Sire: Gigolo Joe Dam: CowPower 86 (Commercial Angus)
This female is ass deep in Nelson genetics. She is a daughter of the great 86 cow. The 86 cow is
long gone but she has left a legacy here. Being a daughter of CowPower 86, makes her a
maternal sister to CowPower 86S. 86S sold for $18,500 and went on to win the Ohio Beef Expo
and the Sioux Empire Farm Show. The Gigolo Joe daughters are proving themselves to be a
maternal force in the show calf industry. Look for great things out of CowPower 86T. She is
just starting her career and we are confident she will be a maternal force.
How many times do we have to tell you? These Gigolo Joe daughters are going to be a force to
be reckoned with in the show calf business. Like nearly all of the Gigolo Joe’s, she is near
perfect structurally. This one has just a little more of everything great! Her first calf will sell on
Club Calf Paradise in 2010. He is a blazed face Grizzly steer that has the look, the bone, and the
hair to be great. We can’t wait to see this cow as a five or six year old. This is Nelson
CowPower at its best. Stay tuned for the many chapters yet to be written on this great female.
Sire: BPJV Hotline Dam: Black Stone x Kruggerand Merger 34
The bottom of this pedigree is really something special. The Black Stone bull made up the entire
base of our Maine cow herd before we dispersed. This bull was a maternal cornerstone of the
breed. The Black Stone daughters are moderate, deep sided, beautiful uddered cows. This
Hotline daughter will carry on the Black Stone tradition. She will calve to Monopoly in 2011
and we are excited about this mating.
A handful of CowPower females sell each December!
